THREE OF OUR MOST REQUESTED SKI RESORTS

Is there anything more magical than a white Christmas? That joyful moment when you pull back the curtains to reveal a winter wonderland. Our favourite European ski resorts light up during the festive season. Christmas morning can be spent on the slopes or sipping hot chocolate in a mountain cafe, then enjoy an exquisite Christmas lunch prepared by your personal chef. End the day curled up by a roaring fire sharing precious memories with loved ones.
Between December and March, the Alps in Europe offer some of the best skiing in the world, prized for their long ski runs and diversity of pistes. From St Anton to Zermatt, we have done the research to give you a definitive collection of the finest luxury chalets in the Alps. Whether you are looking for a Christmas ski holiday with your extended family or a luxury minibreak for two outside of the school holidays, we know the people and places to make your ski holiday in Europe truly extraordinary.
Anyone who skis regularly will know the most sought-after luxury chalets in the Alps sell fast. If you want the best of the best, planning early is essential. Many of the top luxury chalets book up for Christmas and New Year 12 to 18 months in advance. Leave it less than six months, and you may need to make compromises on location or amenities. With a backlog of postponements from two interrupted seasons due to Covid-19, it is more important than ever to book ahead this year.
Here are three of our most popular luxury ski resorts this winter season.
Off piste skiing

SWITZERLAND: VERBIER FOR SERIOUS SKIERS

Verbier is a skier’s resort for purists. Powder hunters have been traversing these slopes for generations. From heliskiing on virgin snow to off-piste day trips with experienced guides, TJB Private Travel and our partners in Verbier can make all the arrangements to get you to the most stunning off-grid locations. Many of the world’s best skiers gather in Verbier for events such as the Freeride World Championships and the Verbier High Five, which aims to be back in April 2023. When you’re not on two skis there are plenty of mountain adventures to be had, from the longest toboggan ride in Western Switzerland, paragliding high over mountain peaks and husky sledging through pine forests.

WHERE TO STAY IN VERBIER

You can’t go wrong with Chalet Les Etrennes. This luxury chalet in Verbier has everything from a private hammam and outdoor hot tube to views of the Mont Blanc Massive from the double-height windows. With its warm pine interiors and cosy living spaces, Chalet Les Etrennes welcomes you home like a warm hug after a long day on the slopes. With six large bedrooms, this is the perfect chalet to share with friends and fellow die-hard skiers.

FRANCE: VAL D’ISERE FOR FAMILIES

Val d’Isere is one of our favourite family-friendly ski resorts. With gentle nursery slopes for new skiers and some of the best ski instructors in Europe, this is an excellent option to perfect your ski skills early on. Beyond the gentle gradient of the beginners’ slopes, this vast ski resort has an endless network of teeth-chattering black runs and off-piste powder to keep the hardcore skiers on their toes. Val d’Isere’s vibrant town centre is world-renowned for its lively apres-ski scene that will keep teenagers and young adults entertained after a day on the slopes.

WHERE TO STAY IN VAL D’ISERE

Most of the properties we work with in Val d’Isere are ski-in-ski-out chalets, making it easy for families to get to the slopes without any fuss. We love Chalet Face A Face with its cinema room and cosy sofas to watch your favourite movie during downtime and charming kids’ rooms with bunk beds. Your chef can prepare early child-friendly meals while you enjoy pre-dinner cocktails by the log fire or escape for deep relaxation in the in-house spa.

AUSTRIA: LECH FOR SOPHISTICATED CHARM

Lech am Arlberg is the definition of refined elegance. There is a reason this exclusive ski resort in Austria is a firm favourite among royals seeking a discrete and stylish hideaway. This picture-perfect town has retained its Alpine charm, turning away from glitz and wild parties and opting for sedate gourmet restaurants, fine wine and contemporary art galleries instead. The sunkissed slopes are carved between magnificent mountain valleys and offer skiing for all levels with easy access to neighbouring St Anton for more challenging pistes.

WHERE TO STAY IN LECH

Chalech S is a perfect example of Lech’s understated elegance. This contemporary luxury chalet opened its doors for the 2019/20 season with calm colour tones and soft lighting that makes it immediately warm and inviting. The house spans over four floors (with a handy lift linking the top to the bottom) and features a spa and relaxation area, large open-plan living areas with floor to ceiling windows and six en-suite bedrooms.
