Simon of Skydance Antarctica offers us a glimpse into life on the final frontier, Antarctica.

Antarctica is a particularly unique and extreme environment. What can guests expect as to how they'll spend their time there?

Antarctica is unlike any other place on Earth—it’s the very definition of remote. Just being there and experiencing the vastness and rugged beauty of the landscapes is fuel for the soul. The feel of the Antarctic wind on your skin and the crisp, untouched air are sensations you’ll carry with you long after you’ve left.

Sure, there are jets, snowmobiles, and state-of-the-art ice vehicles to transport you, along with luxurious accommodations set against mind-blowing backdrops. But the real gift of Antarctica is how it shapes your inner world. It’s a place that inspires reflection, ignites your imagination, and leaves you changed in ways you never expected.

How does visiting Skydance Antarctica fulfill the sense of adventure for clients seeking unique travel experiences?

Every moment in Antarctica feels like an adventure; it’s an experience that constantly surprises and thrills. Some of the standout adventures include:

  • Visiting the Emperor Penguin Colony: See and immerse yourself in one of nature’s wonders. Imagine standing amidst 14,000 penguins, watching these majestic creatures—adults towering over a meter tall and weighing 40KGs—up close. The sights, sounds, and even the unique scent of the colony create a sensory experience unlike any other.
  • A Journey to the South Pole: Few have ever set foot here—more people have reached the top of Everest than the South Pole. It’s the ultimate adventure, taking you to the very heart of the world’s most extreme continent.
  • Exploring Ice Caves: Beneath the surface of Antarctica lie surreal, shimmering ice caves that feel like stepping into another dimension. The play of light and color here is nothing short of magical.
  • Ice Climbing: If you’re after an adrenaline rush, ice climbing with world-class guides will push your limits.
  • Luxury Ice Picnics: There’s nothing like sipping champagne and indulging in gourmet treats while surrounded by the silent, icy wilderness.

Responsible tourism is of the highest importance. How does visiting Antarctica with Skydance promote environmental conservation and awareness among clients?

All processes and operations are as responsible as possible. To the extent of being global pioneers in sustainable travel. All partners and operations abide by The Antarctic Treaty and there are long standing and ongoing Environmental Impact Assessments to ensure operations are sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible.

Examples include, but not limited to; use of renewable energy, CO2 offset programs, Independent environmental inspections, recycling and waste management, air quality monitoring, use of sustainable aviation fuel and contributions to global environment non-profit organisations.

At Skydance, we embrace the Māori concept of “Kaitiaki”—being a guardian of the natural world. This philosophy goes beyond protecting what we see today; it’s about preserving nature for future generations. The idea of “Ko ahau te awa, ko te awa ko ahau” (I am the river, the river is me) perfectly reflects the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the environment. Everyone who visits Antarctica with us becomes a steward of its fragile ecosystem. Our operations are at the forefront of sustainable travel, with an unwavering commitment to minimizing environmental impact.

Antarctica is about experiencing nature in its purest form. What is your favourite part of the continent?

For me, it’s the rocky coastline where land meets sea ice. The way the Antarctic sea ice presses against the sheer cliffs is awe-inspiring—you can feel the raw powers involved.

What are the benefits of experiencing Antarctica’s wilderness for clients seeking solitude and tranquility?

The vastness of Antarctica has a way of making everything else fade away. The sheer scale of the landscape, combined with its remote and untouched nature, gives you a profound sense of solitude that’s hard to find anywhere else. It’s a place where the chaos of everyday life simply disappears, replaced by a deeper, slower rhythm.

This is the ultimate destination for anyone in need of a reset—an opportunity to clear your mind and reconnect with yourself in a place that feels like it exists outside of time.
